Jiří Kliber was born on the 30thAugust 1943 in Ostrava, Czech Republic (EU). In 1966, he graduated with an honours degree a Metallurgical Faculty of Technical University in the field of forming and heat treatment of metals. He joined the Vitkovice Ironworks, a cold rolling mill, he has worked as a foreman, afterwards a technologist and after he has been a welding technologist, in the boiler shop in Vitkovice until 1975. In 1975, he has been admitted to the Department of metal forming , Metallurgy faculty, in 1980, he has defended his doctoral dissertation on metal forming, habilitated to associate professor in 1991 and he has been appointed a professor of forming material in 1998. Since 2000, he has been a Head of the Material forming department at the current Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at the Technical University of Ostrava. He is professionally focused on the forming theory, physical theory of plasticity, hardening and restoring processes of forming material, kinetic processes, precipitation, micro-alloyed steel, highly-strong steel (TRIP, TWIP, ...), to computer simulation of forming processes, plastometric testing (pressure test with the equal deformation, torsion test), thermomechanical forming methods. He has lectured and trained subjects: Theory of forming, Material forming, Metal forming, Controlled forming, Physical theory of plasticity, Thermomechanical forming processes.

He is author or co-author of more than 3500 scientific works, therefrom mainly over 220 in the conference proceedings (52 abroad) and 82 articles in professional journals (therefrom 39 abroad) and other publications.

He supervised the projects GACR (106/94/1130, 106/04/0601, 106/07/0631) and attended on solving the grants 101/96/0506, 106/99/0824, 106/04/1452. He attended on solving the task MŠMT LB 98 (infra), task MŠMT FRVŠ (2001) and (2005). A member of a team of investigators MŠMT MC 610605/1817/633 a MŠMT 6198910015. He attended on solving the task MPSV RPIC-ViP (2004). Cooperation with foreign universities (AGH Krakow - the use of programs Elroll and Comp_axi, Politechnika Slaska Katowice, BA Freiberg, DGPI Donetsk). Cooperation with the practice in CR (Czech steel industry restructuring Study), co-operation in solving the programs Tandem and Impulse (Mittal Steel, Trinec).
